Have you ever thought about how many germs are in the average apartment? Apartment reviews are one way to ensure that you lead a germ-free life in your apartment, but there are also a few easy day-to-day details you should pay attention to.
The first step to living a germ-free apartment life is finding a tidy apartment. When looking for a new apartment, it’s important to know whether previous and current tenants think the property is up to snuff in terms of maintenance. Before you check out apartments, use apartment reviews to figure out which ones are worthwhile to investigate. Apartment reviews can tell you a lot about the quality of the facilities. After that, although apartment reviews are a great way to narrow down your choices, ultimately it’s best to visit the property to find out whether or not it meets your needs. Take a tour of the property and note how well-maintained the property is and whether or not the common facilities are clean.
Once you’ve found a clean apartment with a little help from apartment reviews, it’s still a good idea to take some everyday measures to keep it germ-free. In addition to vacuuming, mopping, and dusting regularly, there are a few places you might not think to pay attention to when you clean. Watch out for these repeat offenders:
Dishes: Did you know that for dishes to become truly sterilized, the water they’re washed in needs to reach 140°F? Opt for the dishwasher instead of hand-washing your dishes to make sure they’re fully disinfected.
Sponges and Dish Towels: Since they are used to clean up messes themselves, these are some of the dirtiest objects in your kitchen. Wash your sponges every day, and replace them every month. You should change out your dish towels regularly, too.
Doorknobs: A quick polish with a disinfecting wipe will help rid your doorknobs of any germs you might carry in and out of your apartment.
Part of apartment life also includes sharing facilities and common outdoor areas with other renters. When going about your business in these common areas, remember these tips:
Gym Equipment: Many gyms provide paper towels and/or wipes for cleaning gym equipment after each use. Be a courteous neighbor and wipe down all equipment you used, including seats, handles, and dashboards. (If you have home gym equipment, you should take the same care to clean it once you’re finished working out.)
Laundry Room: If you’ve used apartment reviews, you’ve already found an apartment that has clean facilities, but there are still some things you should do to keep your laundry clean. Inspect your chosen washer before putting in your clothes; people with pets can sometimes leave an excess of pet hair stuck to the inside of the washer. You should also remember to clean out the dryer’s lint trap, or you might end up with the last person’s lint all over your otherwise clean clothes. (Ew.)
